A Judge has appointed lead counsel in Toyota product liability claims.

A federal judge has appointed four of the most experienced product liability lawyers in the United Satates to the positions of lead counsel for two committees that will deal with the more than 320 lawsuits filed against toyota.
The first committee will handle all of the wrongfull death claims. The second committee will be the counsel for people who have filed lawsuits claiming a decrease in value of their cars since the begining of the recall.
To date, the Japanese automaker has recalled about 8 million vehicles.
Toyota has previously blamed floormats and sticky accelerator pedals as the cause of the sudden unintended acceleration that has lead to dozens of deaths.
The National Highway Traffic Saftey Administration has found that 52 deaths have been linked to the acceleration problems. This prompted the agency to fine Toyota a record $16.4 million that Toyota has already paid.
Justice for the consumers however, will be tough. As one of the lawyers put it, "We are up against a well financed and tenacious defendant that dosn't believe it owes consumers anything or has cars with defects."
The next step for the lawyers is to consolidate the lawsuits in the hopes that the federal judge will certify them as a single class.
