Car Wreck On Highway 51 Near Dyer County Line Leads To Second Crash Involving Fire Department

A car wreck reportedly occurred on Highway 51 near the Dyer County line on Thursday April 9, 2009 setting up an unfortunate later accident involving a member of the Halls Fire Department. 

 The initial automobile accident happened when a driver going north on Highway 51 went partially into the median then crossed the highway and landed upside down in a field.  While Tennessee Highway Patrol officers were completing their investigation of the wreck, members of the Halls Fire Department went down to the car to do a last inspection.  One of the firemen then brought them back up to the highway in his pickup truck.  After the others got out of his truck, the fireman pulled back onto the highway and was hit by a car with two children passengers inside. 

 The driver in the initial accident was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Lauderdale County, as were the driver and two children passengers in the car that struck the fireman's truck.
