Lebanon TN police officer Jeff Stone was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday night. The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 231 / South Cumberland Ave. and Jennings Avenue. Stone was off duty while traveling South on US 231 on his 2006 Harley Davidson, when a 1997 BMW pulled out in front of him causing Stone to strike the BMW is the drivers door. Stone was declared dead at the scene.
The BMW was driven by Jose Chavez of Lebanon. Charges against Chavez are pending. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report, investigators have ordered tests to see if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Tennessean reports that the officer is survived his wife and three children. "Stone's death is the second tragedy to strike his family this year. Just three months ago, his father, Jeffrey Dean Stone, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Stone's father was only 50."
Funeral arrangements for Stone had not yet been scheduled Sunday. Bowen said more details would be available today.
"He will be missed," said Scott Bowen, Lebanon P.D. Chief of Police.
