A second Super Puma AS332L Mark II helicopter crashed off the coast of Scotland and 16 are feared dead. The first Super Puma crash was in the North Sea a little over thirty days ago. All 18 aboard survived that crash.
The helicopter that crashed on April 1, 2009 was carrying 16 people when it when down off Scotland's Northeast coast. Eight bodies have been recovered and 8 more are missing. There is no evidence that anyone survived.
The Super Puma was operated by Bond Offshore Helicopters. Super Puma copters are regularly used to transport personnel to and from oil and gas drilling platforms.
Wednesday's crash is thought to be Britain's second worst helicopter incident in history in terms of the number of fatalities.
The cause of the helicopter accident is not know at this time. Officials said that visibility was good and there was only a light breeze in the area at the time of the crash. Read more...
