Dangerous Products
You do everything you can to keep your family away from harm. You read product ratings and watch the news. You always wear your seatbelt and you follow the rules of the road. You call the gas company before you dig a foundation for your shed.
But you can't control everything.
- Your child receives a deadly electrical shock from a counterfeit electronic device that you innocently purchased in Nashville, not knowing it was made with unsafe and untested components.
- Your Tennessee doctor prescribes a medication that she believes will improve your health when the drug manufacturer already knows it is unsafe for a person in your condition.
- You buy a car with a high crash-test rating, but when you are involved in a head-on collision on I-40, the seat back breaks, severely injuring a family member.
The
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) keeps track of dangerous products and
product recalls, but often the danger is only reported after someone gets hurt.
With offices in Middle Tennessee and serving the surrounding areas, Williams Law Group has set the standard by protecting the rights of Tennessee consumers and families who have suffered injuries due to dangerous products and safety hazards.
Acceptable standards of public safety are always being debated and rewritten by government regulators and argued by scientists, doctors, politicians, and advocacy groups. In this changing environment it is hard to know what your rights are and who is at fault when you or your family are exposed to a dangerous product.
To make matters worse, according to
news sources and
legal watchdog groups, the government has made it even harder for companies to be held responsible when their products hurt consumers.
You do your best to protect your family, but when unsafe products have taken a toll on your family's health and safety, you need the expertise of a qualified attorney. B. Keith Williams is a board certified Civil Trial Specialist who focuses on dangerous product claims.
What are dangerous products? Any product that is used in
good faith by a person and which turns out to cause that person harm could be a dangerous product. Sometimes dangerous products remain available to the public because of ignorance, but often it is due to negligence, recklessness, or corporate greed. Dangerous products can affect your family's safety at home, at work, and on the road.
Some potentially dangerous products include: Pharmaceuticals: The
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) Vioxx was taken off the market in September 2004 after studies were made public that showed that the pain reliever increased patients' risk of heart attack and stroke. Investigations into studies done by the manufacturer, Merck& Co., suggested that this risk was known and was misrepresented in reports to the
FDA.
Toys: Healthytoys.org warns that many chemicals in children's toys were never fully tested, and that once products are on the market there is little oversight of the risks these toys may pose to your children.
Products whose dangers were unknown to the general public: Lately more people have become aware that
bisphenol A (BPA) is a dangerous ingredient in many plastics, including the types commonly used to make baby bottles.
Recent studies have suggested that microwaving some plastics labeled "microwave-safe" can actually release toxic doses of BPA.
Products that are supposed to keep you and your family safe: Following the deaths of two infants, baby products manufacturer
Delta Enterprise Corporation issued a voluntary recall of
1.6 million cribs made between 1995 and 2007.
Auto manufacturers test their vehicles for safety and build their cars with technology designed to keep you safe in the case of a collision, but those safety measures can fail, and they have failed, injuring and killing people who believed they were safe.
