Details of the Aeromexico flight 2431 Accident:

At around 3.30pm on Tuesday July 31st  2018, a full Aeroméxico flight heading to Mexico City became airborne and lost altitude shortly after take off from Guadalupe Victoria International Airport in Durango. The aircraft descended abruptly and hit the ground to the left of the runway with it’s left wing.  As a result, both engines broke away and a fire soon ensued. All 99 passengers on the Aeroméxico Flight 2431 as well as 4 crew members managed to survive however 49 suffered injuries that required hospitalization.  According to CBS News, 65 of the 103 passengers on the flight were American citizens.

As more information surfaces about the circumstances surrounding the accident of AeroMexico’s flight 2431 in Durango, Mexico, it is extraordinary that all 103 passengers survived on the Embraer 190 which was heading for Mexico City. The aircraft being only 10 years old and serviced regularly, suddenly crashed after becoming airborne, skidding through underbrush, barely 400 feet from the end of the runway.

Experts believe that bad weather, high winds, hail and storms were a contributing factor to the accident. Even though pilots are trained to appropriately maneuver the plane in such circumstances, the ideal move would have been to refrain from attempting take off with such conditions and to taxi back to the gate.

Most new aircraft are equipped with technology that warns pilots of wind shear and dangerous weather both visually and audibly. However, the crew on the AeroMexico flight may have not got the warning until they were already airborne which would have given them little time as well as little airspeed and altitude to avoid the thankfully non fatal crash.
