The Smith family are a well-known and respected family in Dickson Tennessee where Danny and Sharon own two businesses, the Dickson Athletic Club and O’Rouke’s Irish Pub.  So family, friends, patrons and neighbors are understandable shocked and worried about the news that the family and a friend were severely injured in a plane crash in Alabama on their way home to Dickson. Danny and Sharon’s son Andy and a family friend, Katie Hargrove, were traveling with them aboard Danny’s plane when it crashed in a backyard in Helena Alabama, about 20 miles out of Birmingham.  Neighbors heard the crash and ran to help as the plane caught fire and burned.  They pulled all four people from the plane just in time as the craft went up in flames.  Danny and Katie are in stable condition, but Sharon and Andy remain in serious condition.  First responders say their injuries range from broken bones to burns.

Authorities on the scene speculate that Danny may have been trying to land at the airport just outside of Helena.  As the plane’s flight plane took it from Panana City to Dickson, Tennessee Aviation Attorney Keith Williams believes the crash indicates there may have been a fuel issue or equipment failure that Mr. Smith was aware of and he might have been trying to land early to take care of the problem but was unable to get the plane down in time.  Whatever the cause turns out to be, the people who ran to help are most definitely heros as they pulled the helpless victims from the mangled wreckage and saved them from burning to death.  Our congratulations to the local heroes and our best wishes for healing to the Smith family and Miss Hargrove!
